THE JOY OF ABIDING IN CHRIST (Part 5) – BEARING FRUIT FOR GOD

God calls us to remain in Christ and produce fruit for Him. He lovingly lifts up those who may feel spiritually fruitless so they can bear fruit, and He prunes those who are already fruitful to yield even more (John 15:2). The fruit that God desires from us consists of the positive virtues, actions, and outcomes that become evident as we remain connected to Christ.

To bear fruit for God, our first priority is undergoing a transformation of character. As Christians, we bear fruit by increasingly reflecting the virtues and qualities of Christ, often referred to as the “fruit of the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22).

The second significant aspect of bearing fruit is seen in our Christian conduct. Our Heavenly Father desires us to be fruitful in every good work, which includes acts of generosity, witnessing, forgiveness, prayer, mentoring, and engaging in all forms of benevolent actions (Colossians 1:9-10).

The fruit of Christ-like character and Christian conduct make the gospel we proclaim appealing and authenticates the presence of Christ to others. Essentially, as believers, we become effective in reaching out to lead the unsaved to Christ, bearing fruit for God. We bear fruit when we bring others into a relationship with Christ (Romans 1:13; 16:5).

Hence, the three primary dimensions of bearing fruit are character transformation, Christian conduct, and the noble task of winning souls. As we bear fruit, we bring glory, honour, and praise to our Heavenly Father.
