Knowing And Doing The Will of God (Part 2)

God reveals His will to humanity throughout the Bible, but most of us disregard it. Those who argue that they do not know the will of God ought to blame themselves because they do not like to read their Bible or attend teaching services. Many doze off as soon as they take their Bible to read.

A person who does not study God’s Word and meditate in it day and night to have it dwell in his heart will find it difficult doing the will of God. It is when we have the Word of God in our hearts that the Holy Spirit will remind us about the will of God and help us to do it.

David delighted to do God’s will because he had God’s Word in his heart (Psalm 40:8).

And after David’s death, Luke wrote of him stating that: “For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep…” (Acts 13:36, KJV).

David did not minister just anyhow. He did not go about speaking, dancing, fighting and doing whatever he wanted or thought was right. He served his generation by the will of God. He was careful to minister the way God wanted it because he had God’s Word in his heart.

Do you see why most Christians find it difficult functioning at the centre of God’s will? It is because many of us do not have the Word in our hearts.

If a minister finds it difficult to preach the crucified Christ, it is because his heart is empty of Christ’s instruction as recorded in Matthew 28:18-20, which urges him to teach His commands and to preach the gospel.

Many of us think that we will go to heaven simply because we attend church meetings. That is a lie. Attending church meetings is good, but it does not necessarily make a person Christian. What if you belong to a cultic organisation or you are being led astray by a blind pastor who denies you the truths of God’s Word.

When you diligently search the scriptures you will know for yourself if your pastor teaches you the truth of God’s Word or his own opinions. Scripturally, a call to a person to believe in God is an invitation to trust, obey and do the will of God, which will eventually lead him to enter heaven.

Now, though Satan and his demons believe in God, they will not enter heaven because they do not do the perfect will of God. They oppose and rebel against the gospel of Jesus Christ.

This shows that there may be one thing believing in God and another thing doing the will of God. If a person believes in God, but does not do God’s will he will suffer eternal destruction.

It is high time we stopped bragging about merely believing in God, and began doing the will of God. We must study God’s Word and obey and do its precepts. If we truly believe in Jesus Christ, we will abide in His teachings with love.
