The Church must understand that we are called not only to grow, excel, and abound in various aspects of God’s grace but also to reflect His generous character through the grace of giving.
The Bible highlights the Philippian church in Macedonia, which partnered with Paul in advancing the kingdom of God through their contributions.
The Philippians demonstrated a genuine interest in the welfare of others and the advancement of God’s kingdom through their gracious acts of giving (Phil.1 5; 4:10-19; 2Cor. 8:1-5; 2Cor. 11:8-9)
One may ask, “What was the empowering force behind their giving?” It was the grace of giving that God bestowed upon the church, which awakened in them the desire to give cheerfully and willingly (2 Cor. 8:1, AMP).
The good news is that every church can excel and abound in this grace of giving. Individually, we can access this grace by faith. As a corporate body, the church can also desire this grace to be bestowed upon her.
This is because “God is able to make all grace (every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance, so that you may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need be self-sufficient [possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation]” (2 Cor. 9:8, AMPC).
Let us all excel and abound in the grace of giving, as the Apostle Paul, through the Holy Spirit, admonished the Corinthians and, by extension, all of us in 2 Corinthians 8:7 (NIV):
“But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you—see that you also excel in this grace of giving.”
