Hearing God And Disobeying Him: A Bitter Lesson From Saul To All Gospel Preachers

When God commands His servants, many obey Him, but several others disobey Him. The fact that God is merciful does not mean that He tolerates disobedience.

Saul, Israel’s first king, clearly heard God instructing him to “go and attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death all men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camel and donkeys” (1 Samuel 15:3).

However, Saul disobeyed the Word of the LORD Almighty by sparing “Agag, the King of Amalekites, and the best of the sheep and cattle, the fat calves and lamb – everything that was good” (1 Samuel 15:9).

Saul’s disobedience to God’s instruction incurred the displeasure of the LORD. Consequently, God rejected him from being King over the people of Israel.

Interestingly, for some years, Saul continued to dress in royal robes and was seen as king of Israel, but spiritually God had rejected him.

This is a lesson to all Christians especially men of God that we are under the authority of the Spirit of God.

It is to warn us that no apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor/bishop owns any local church. A local church and everything in it belongs to God.

Christian leaders who understand their calling this way will do well to go about their duties by first seeking to function at the centre of the perfect will of God.

It is also a sign that a minister may be decently dressed, pastoring a church, yet he might have been rejected by God for disobeying His commands.

Are you a man of God? Who called you into the Christian ministry? Was it Jesus Christ? If the Lord Jesus was the One who called, trained and sent you to work as His servant, then, you must preach and teach what the Lord commanded you.

When someone says he is a Christian apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor/bishop or teacher, ask him to tell you the kind of message they were given to preach and teach.

Genuine men of God in the Church know what they are called to proclaim. Brethren, we must obey God, knowing that He has the power to reject those who persistently disobey Him, and grief the Holy Spirit.

In our walk with the Lord, obedience is the main thing that makes us happy in Christ Jesus. Therefore, we must hear and obey God.
