The Bible is the written Word of God, which can be accessed in several parts of the world, and in several international and local languages.
Considering the usefulness of the Word of God, every believer is encouraged to have it. In ensuring that his friend, Theophilus, had the Word of God, Luke wrote the gospel of Luke to him (Luke 1:1-3).
Moreover, Paul, the apostle, urged the earliest believers to study the Scriptures in order that they could rightly explain or interpret its truths to others 2(Timothy 2:15). This applies to all of us today.
The truth is that you cannot explain the Word of God unless you have it, possess it or it is with you personally. This makes it extremely important for every Christian believer to pay every price to have the Word of God.
Even centuries before the Bible was compiled in its current format, God was interested in seeing His children posses His Word. Thus, God instructed Joshua not only to posses His Word, but also have it on his lips and learn to meditate on it day and night (Joshua 1:8).
To Moses, God said, “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates” (Deuteronomy 6:6-9).
You see, God always wants His children to have His Word. Having the Word of God is tantamount to having God, because God and His Word are one. A person who truly has the Word of God has God.
Now, what do I mean by having God’s Word? The Word of God you have is not the Bible you hold in your hand, under your armpit, under your pillow or you have it on your table. All these are good, but they are not what I am talking about.
Many Christians boast of having the Word of God, but, in reality, they do not have it. The Word of God you have is the Word you possess personally in your inner being. It is the Word of God within you, in your heart, in your spirit. It is the Word that richly dwells in you.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God” (Colossians 3:16).
When you have the Word dwell in you richly, you truly have the Word or you possess it. Then, you can powerfully minister with it. According to Paul, a true Christian teaches, admonishes others in wisdom and sings only when they have the Word dwell in them richly.
David said he hid God’s Word in his heart that he might not sin against Him (Psalm 119:11). David understood the secret of having God’s Word. It is having the Word only in your heart, the centrality of your being.
A key way of getting the Word of God dwell in your inner being is by meditating on it. This is achieved when you free your heart of all offenses, bitterness and unforgivenes, and spend quality time to deeply think about God and His Word as you read or study it day and night.
So, henceforth, boast of having God’s Word not when you have it in your hand, but when you have it dwell richly in your heart. With it, you can easily quote it to silence Devils when they tempt you to sin as Jesus did (see Matthew Chapter 4).
With it, we truly live as redeemed and victorious children of God in Christ Jesus, walking as children of light, empowered to testify about the restorative work of Christ Jesus on the cross.
