“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit” (John 12:24).
When Adam sinned, he acquired a death nature that was passed down to all generations after him. Therefore, the life of every person became tainted with sin and bound for death. Accordingly, they have all inherited a sinful identity from him.
Jesus came as the last Adam, who is a life-giving spirit (1 Cor 15:45), with a righteous identity to give life to all who believe in him. By his resurrection from the dead, He is able to pass on life to others.
This life begins with a person’s old nature of sin being identified with his crucifixion (Rom 6:6) through repentance, for his blood to cleanse it; followed by its identification with his death through burial as signified by baptism (4); then the sprouting of a new life by identification with his resurrection (5).
The Spirit of God comes to live in a person who has believed in Christ, and becomes the driver of their new life rooted in the word of God. This life feeds on his body and blood to live forever. Jesus said, “Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me and I in him.
As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me” (John 6:56,57).
Life in Christ is a replacement of life in Adam in a person. Whereas life in Adam is rooted in sin, leading to death, life in Christ is rooted in righteousnes leading to eternal life. The two lives are completely different and opposed to each other. Whereas life in Adam craves after evil because of sin, life in Christ craves after good because of righteousness.
Out of the death of Christ, came his resurrection, that amounted to the sprouting of life, to bear several seeds of life, so receive life from Christ, and death shall be chased out of your natural life.
PRAYER: Father, thank you for changing a person’s sinful natural identity in Adam to a righteous supernatural identity in Christ. May the eternal life inherited from Christ, cause life of death inherited from Adam to disappear. Amen.
