A PROOF THAT A PERSON HAS BEEN BORN OF GOD AND KNOWS GOD

HOPE, FAITH, and love are three things that will last, but the greatest of these three is love. This means living a life of love is the greatest thing disciples of Christ Jesus must seriously pay attention to.

People’s ability to love makes them unique. A person filled with love and lives by love is superior indeed.

It is not surprising, therefore, that the greatest commandment God has given to those who believe in Him is to love Him and also love their neighbours as themselves. Jesus Christ teaches us about this in (Matthew 22:37-40). As Christians, living a life of love is not an option; it is a command that must be gladly obeyed.

Unfortunately, this is the commandment many followers of Christ, including some pastors, have failed to obey, live by, act on or practise in their daily life situations. We say that we know and understand love yet we hate one another, cheat one another, defraud one another, betray one another, gossip about one another, belittle one another, malign one another and murder one another. These obviously are not acts of love. We Christians say that we are the product of love yet we refuse to live a genuine life of love in our marriages, professions, careers, communities, and nations to glorify God.

Thus, our communities and nations are distressed with hatred, murder, hurt, revenge, resentment, anger, rage, divorce, selfishness, selfish ambitions, and the like.

To know God is to know love, because God is love. Love is the greatest virtue. For this reason, Paul, the apostle, implores believers to pursue it.

John also in 1 John 4:7-12 reminds the church, saying, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God because God is love. In this, the love of God was made manifest among us that God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sin. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. … if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.”

John makes it clear from this passage of Scripture that a proof that a person knows God and has been born again in Christ Jesus lives a life of love for the glory of God.
