By James Quansah, Pastor
WE EMPHASISED in Part One that God gives everyone He calls and places in leadership positions of the Church two unique things. These unique things are specific messages and assignment. The two things make the pastor’s ministry special.
We considered the call of Noah and exact messages and assignment God gave him in Part One.
In the Part Two, we want to look at other ministers and the unique messages and assignments God gave them.
We equally will find out if pastors who claim to have been called by God and set in the Church today also have specific messages and assignments given to them in the subsequent editions.
The Call of Abraham
We know that God called Abraham and spoke with him on several occasions. God’s first few words to Abraham as recorded in 12:1-3 were that he should leave his country, family and father’s house.
Now, there were three key promises the LORD gave to Abraham: He would make him a great nation, He would make his name great and the families of the earth would be blessed through him.
And then, God told Abraham his assignment: TO COMMAND HIS CHILDREN AND HIS HOUSEHOLD AFTER HIM TO KEEP THE WAY OF THE LORD BY DOING RIGHTEOUSNESS AND JUSTICE, so that the LORD may bring to Abraham what he has promised him” (Genesis 18: 17- 19).
The Call of Moses
We are familiar with the fact that God called to Moses out of the burning bush. And his main job was to go to Egypt TO BRING OUT GOD’S PEOPLE, the children of Israel” (Exodus 3:1- 10).
And that was exactly the main work Moses did.
The Call of Amos
Amos personally shared with Amaziah, priest of Bethel the specific assignment God gave him when He called him;
“Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, ‘I was no prophet, nor a prophet’s son, but I was a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore figs. But the LORD took me from following the flock, and the LORD said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel” (Amos 7:14).
We can continue to talk about how God called other prophets, kings, and priests under the Old Testament and the specific messages and assignments He gave them.
As the call of God did not end with the Old Testament ministers, we will continue the teaching with the call of ministers under the New Testament in Part Three.
