Three Houses A Pastor May Build; One Is Compulsory (1)

By James Quansah

EVERY PASTOR is likely to build three different houses in his lifetime. He may build his personal house and a church auditorium. And he is duty-bound to build spiritual houses.

Visionary leaders build houses. The Lord Jesus Christ believes in buildings and spoke a lot about them. Noah built the Ark, which was a type of house. Moses built tabernacles and King Solomon built a magnificent temple for God. Most leaders are remembered for the houses they built.

Church Building

For this reason, many men of God put up magnificent temples for the name of God. Pastors feel fulfilled for being able to put up church buildings.

Putting up a church building is one of the difficult things in ministry. I served as a deacon for over 15 years so I know what I am talking about. It is a great achievement to get a permanent place of worship for a church.

Christians who freely and willingly contribute money and other materials to up church buildings from sincere hearts truly love God. And Jesus Christ is always ready to help them (Luke 7: 1- 6).

Pastor’s House

A pastor may also build his personal house. Some people think that a pastor does not deserve to live in a decent and spacious house. They criticise everything. They want a pastor with a wife and children to stay in a single room.

Many people misinterpret a statement made by the Lord Jesus in Matthew 8: 20 that, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head” to attack pastors.

You must understand that the Lord Jesus Christ was a travelling Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher. Acts 10: 38 says that Jesus Christ “WENT ABOUT doing good and healing…”

He did not stay in one place for years.

Again, Jesus Christ did not have a wife and children. If He did, He would have acquired a decent and spacious house to lay His head and receive visitors.

Interestingly, Jesus promised His disciples houses to live in (Mark 10: 29- 30). The Apostle Peter had his own house where his wife and sick mother-in-law who was healed by Jesus lived. So a pastor may build his own house or rent a decent one.
