God’s Mobile Library (Part 1)

“A library is many things. It’s a place to go if you want to sit and think. It is a place where books live, and where you can get in touch with other people, and other thoughts, through books.

Books hold most of the secrets of the world, most of the thoughts that men and women have had. And when you are reading a book, you and the author are alone together – just the two of you.

A library is a good place to go when you feel unhappy, for there, in a book, you may find encouragement and comfort. A library is a good place to go when you feel bewildered or undecided, for there, in a book, you may have your question answered.

Books are good company, in sad times and happy times, for books are people – people who have managed to stay alive by hiding between the covers of a book.” E.B. White, letter to child patrons of the Troy Public Library (Michigan), 1971.

Man possibly learnt about book writing from his Creator. God is a writer; He wrote on stone tablets and gave them to Moses for reference and instruction.

“Now the LORD said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and remain there, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commandments which I HAVE WRITTEN for their instruction” (Exodus 24: 12).

‘The tablets were God’s work, and the writing was GOD’S WRITING engraved on the tablets” (Exodus 32: 16).

The fact that God wrote on the stone tablet indicates that God had always been a writer from the beginning. Thus, man possibly was imparted with God’s writing ability so he could communicate what he knows with others.

Through this process, God inspired about 40 of His servants to author His words to instruct mankind. The authors did not write the scriptures from their own interpretation as some critics ignorantly put it.

But Scripture explains that: “…no prophesy comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophesy was ever produced BY THE WILL OF MAN, but MEN SPOKE FROM GOD AS THEY WERE CARRIED ALONG BY THE HOLY SPIRIT” (2 Peter 2: 21).

Now, these 40 servant-authors of God wrote 66 books which have been compiled into one simple, handy and movable but living book called the Bible.

It is a God’s collection of books; it is a library. And I call it God’s mobile library because a child of God can easily carry all the 66 books in one book from one place to another to receive daily instruction from his God.

It is divided into the Old Testament which comprises 39 books and the New Testament with 27 books.

“The word bible comes from the Greek word “biblios”, meaning book. But the Bible is more than a book – or a collection of books. It is God’s written revelation of His will to men. Behind and beneath this book, above and beyond this book, is the God of the book. For the Bible is all about God – and especially it is about God’s Son, Jesus Christ” (Jamie Buckingham, Power For Living, 1998).

The Bible’s mobility has been made easier in our day with the advent of technology. Today, God’s Word is not only paper-based but it is also digital-based. We have it on our phones, ipads, tablets, laptops, and other electronic devices.

This means wherever we go God’s Word is with us to comfort, advise, guide, direct and help us in every situation that confronts us.
