Guides and Role Models in Ministry

There are ministers of God who may be referred to as guides or ‘role models’ in ministry. They are quite different from fathers in Christ. Most often, they do or they did not have direct personal relationship with young ministers who learn from them. But their ministries serve as guides to them. The apostle Paul calls them, “Guides in Christ.”

“For though you have countless GUIDES IN CHRIST, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel,” (1 Corinthian 4:15).

Many young ministers of the gospel draw inspiration from the preaching, teachings, faith, love and the godly manner in which such ministers live or lived their lives.

For instance, Jeremiah was Daniel’s guide or role model. Daniel did not have direct personal relationship with Jeremiah, but he related with him through his books. Much of Daniel’s spiritual growth depended on his indirect relationship with the prophet Jeremiah.

How did Daniel relate with Jeremiah indirectly thereby making Jeremiah his role model? The Bible says Daniel studied and read Jeremiah’s books which imparted his spiritual life. A guide or a role model in ministry is as equally helpful as fathers in the Lord.

“In the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, perceived IN THE BOOKS the number of years that, according to the word of the LORD TO JEREMIAH THE PROPHET, must pass before the end of the desolations of Jerusalem, namely, seventy years,” (Daniel 9:2).

Many people may not understand why I am able to write the way I do, but I believe it is as a result of an anointing I received from the Lord Jesus. I also believe it is as a result of impartations I have been receiving from anointed men of God for reading their books and listening to their teachings and preaching.

I cannot readily count the number of books I have read which were written by Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills, Apostle Alfred Nyamekye, Prophet Kenneth E. Hagin, A. A. Allen, Charles Spurgeon, Alan Redpath, D. L Moody, Prophet T. Joshua and other highly anointed servants of God.

I have been indirectly relating with these precious vessels of God through their books and videos just as Daniel read Jeremiah’s books to receive prophetic anointing.

I remember within one week, in the year 2013, I bought over four books of Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills under the influence of the Holy Spirit.

So these anointed men of God are my guides in ministry but Apostle Alfred Nyamekye, General Overseer of House of Faith Ministries is my father in the Lord.

I know that my spirit is imparted as I read their books and listen to their teachings. But my Bible is the number one book I read daily in order to hear the voice of the Lord Himself.

May your inner man be imparted and blessed as you meditatively and prayerfully read your Bible and other Christian books and articles. Amen.

Sure! The right term is what you have used, “father in the LORD” not spiritual father. God bless you
