“And I will ask the Father, AND HE WILL GIVE YOU ANOTHER HELPER, TO BE WITH YOU FOREVER, EVEN THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you AND WILL BE IN YOU” (John 14:16 –17).
God gives His Holy Spirit to everyone who hears the gospel of salvation, believes in Jesus Christ and repents of their sins. The Spirit is received to dwell in the heart of the believer.
The Holy Spirit must be regarded as a person. He comes to dwell within a believer when he is born again, sealing him as a true child of God for the day of redemption.
No matter your ministry gift or spiritual gift, the Spirit of Christ is given to be your most important and trusted friend.
He is closest to us than any person can be. He dwells in our hearts, forming part of our inner being. We must recognize this and make Him our great friend.
We must humbly learn to follow His teachings. The Lord Jesus said, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you” (John 14:26).
A best friend is the one who sharpens your countenance and offers you the necessary counsel. He is the one you share your secrets with and knows your plans.
Thus, the Holy Spirit reveals the deep and secret things to those who have relationship with Him. So make the Holy Spirit your Number One companion to guide, teach and comforts you.
As our guide, He leads and directs us. As our teacher, He explains things to us. He helps us to understand spiritual things including dreams, visions and Scriptures.
As our Helper, the Holy Spirit comforts us when we are saddened and revives us when we are spiritually weak, thereby renewing our strength for greater works.
With Him as a friend, we can say we are more than a majority and conqueror; we can say greater is He who is in us than that which is in the world.
To learn to walk with Him, we should listen to the voice of our conscience or heart. He may also speak to us through dreams, visions and trances.
Through the Holy Spirit, Christians are enabled to worship God in Spirit and in truth. He inspires them to do the will of God.
He is eternal just as the Father and the Son are. The Bible calls Him the Spirit of God (Gen. 1:2, Exo. 31:3, Matt. 3:16). He is also called the Spirit of Christ (Rom. 8:9, 1 Peter 1:11), the Spirit of Jesus (Acts 16:7), the Spirit of His (God’s) Son (Gal. 4:6) and the Spirit of Jesus Christ (Phi. 1:19).
Do not forget that a true son of God is the one who gladly yields to the leading of the Holy Spirit. A true child of God is the one who is led by the Holy Spirit (Roman 8:14).
Be inspired to build a unique relationship with the Holy Spirit now if you are not a genuine disciple of Jesus Christ. He is willing to accept your friendship. Be ready to receive Him as you believe in Jesus Christ.
