PASTORS COMMUNICATE deep things of God to edify, comfort, correct or warn people.. They speak the words God has given them. But sometimes, as humans, they may also utter uninspired words.
A few weeks ago, Bishop Charles Agyinasare referred to a shrine at Nogokpo, a town in the Volta Region of Ghana as the demonic headquarters of the Region.
He was teaching congregants on the need to activate divine protection from demonic attacks as his message centred on divine protection during the Supernatural Empowerment Summit at the Perez Dome in Accra recently.
Bishop Agyinasre’s comment has angered the traditional leaders and most residents of the area.
They have given the servant of Christ who has preached in 92 countries since the past 40 years a 14-day ultimatum to appear before them or else face terrible consequences.
We do not encourage statements that can undermine peace in any community, but we do know that the man of God’s comment is not strange to a student of the Bible.
John, an apostle, who walked with the Lord Jesus and witnessed His ministries made similar statement at the later part of his ministry.
In a message, John described a town as a place where Satan had his throne and dwelled.
“And to the angel of the church in Pergamum write:‘…I know where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. Yet you hold fast my name, and you did not deny my faith even in the days of Antipas my faithful witness, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells”, (Revelation 2:12-13).
John described Pergamum which is called Bergama, today, in the il (province) of İzmir, Turkey as “where Satan has his throne” and “where Satan lives.”
John communicating the Word of Christ referred to Pergamus as a place where Satan dwelled because the temples to the Greek gods, the most famous being the Altar of Zeus was located there.
However, two things are unique about the words of John. Firstly, the apostle made it clear that the words he communicated were direct words Jesus Christ gave him to His church.
What about bishop Agyinasare’s? Could it be that he also uttered the words God gave him?
Secondly, the Bible is silent on how the people of Pergamum reacted to the message after John had delivered it.
It might be that they were not angry with John, knowing that he spoke the truth. But then who knows if they insulted and threatened to deal with John as it is being done to Bishop Agyinasare.
There is no doubt that different people react differently to one or similar messages.
