Signs That Show That A Person Is Proud

By God’s Servant, Peter Collins Obeng

IN OUR last teaching sessions, we discussed the various symptoms, signs, ideals, behaviours and evidences of pride in our lives regarding the things we do to hurt and destroy our relationship with God and others.

In this last part of the series, we wish to focus on dishonest evaluation of ourselves, or the overestimation of our importance and abilities which are rooted in pride. Let’s pay attention to the following signs:

1) You’re struggling with pride if you think MORE highly of yourself – Rom. 12:3; Gal.6:3.

2) It’s a symptom of pride if you talk too much about yourself, boasting in your achievements and strengths – Prov. 27:2; 2 Cor.10:10.

3) Pride claims a relationship that doesn’t exist. It is a form of pride if you associate yourself with prominent people, dropping their names in your conversations for others to know that you’re equally important.

4) Understand that self-exaltation is a form of pride – Lk 18:9-14;Lk 14:8-11; Prov 25:7.

5) You are proud if you refuse to ask for help or accept help from others – 2 Tim. 4:10-11.

6) Do you feel uncomfortable to thank others for the little things they do for you? Then you are proud.

7) You’re proud if you disregard the advice of others – 1 Kings 7, 8, 13

8) lf you think you’re too good, big or important to perform menial tasks you’re proud.

9) It is rude to interrupt others when they are speaking. Understand that pride is interrupter and not a good listener

10) It’s a behaviour of pride if you love the praise of men more than the praise of God – John 12:42-43

11) One of the signs of being proud is when you always want attention and appreciation. You can’t always be the center of attention.

12) A proud person has a hard time accepting failures and he fails to accept constructive criticism.

13) Do you allow the enemy to use you to destroy others by criticizing them, complaining against them, finding fault with them for you to be seen as a better person? It’s an ideal of pride – James 4:11; 5:9.

14) Do you get hurt when your opinion or suggestion is not considered by your Pastor or boss? It’s a sign of pride. Understand that you don’t always see the bigger picture.
