Christians like all humans are relational beings, who must pay serious attention to relationships in their lives. There are several relationships one can keep, but a relationship with God must top the list.
Man must pay attention to keeping a closer relationship with God, who created and formed him. The Bible authoritatively states that God created and formed man (Genesis 1:26-27; 2:7). No deity has ever boldly challenged God concerning this.
Consequently, right from the beginning, man had a cordial, intimate relationship with his Maker until he sinned or disobeyed God’s command, leading to a separation between them.
The only thing which destroys, ruins and breaks man’s relationship with God is sin. God is light; sin is darkness. God is righteous; sin is unrighteousness and faithlessness. The separation of man’s relationship with God through sin is spiritual death.
Blood is the currency that is used for transactions in the spiritual world. A shed blood atones for sins to ensure reconciliation or restoration of broken relationships.
However, in ensuring a permanent restoration of cordial, intimate relationship between God and man, only sinless, spotless and unblemished blood of Jesus Christ had to be shed.
“For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired,
but a body have you prepared for me; in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book…And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all” (Hebrews 10:4-10).
So, those who hear the message about the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ called the Gospel and believe in Jesus are justified and reconciled with God.
Christians, therefore, have right standing and peaceful relationship with God the Father through Christ Jesus.
Children of God must not only pay greater attention to their relationship with God, but also unite and live as a family, the elect of God, assembly or congregation of God called the “ecclesia” or “kyriakos” which is commonly referred to in English as the Church.
God is our Father through Jesus Christ by the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. The Church of Jesus Christ, therefore, is not about a religion, but a relationship with God who is a King of the Kingdom of heaven. Christians are brought in the Kingdom through Christ. So, our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20).
A Christian may be poor and still be a favourite of God. Yes, a Christian may be sick in body and yet have an intimate relationship with God. Let every Christian keep an eye on their relationship with God.
