The Role Of Prayer In Advancing God’s Kingdom

We established in previous teachings that we don’t transform the spiritual atmosphere by pulling demonic strongholds over nations, cities, or geographical areas.

Moreover, we don’t do so by praying against the forces of darkness. Instead, we transform the spiritual environment through Word-based and Spirit-energized prayers.

However, this teaching builds on the foundation above with a focus on the role of prayer in advancing God’s kingdom on earth.

To advance God’s kingdom on earth, the Church must be guided by the following points to offer fervent prayers to God:

1. Pray for peace to reign in the nations – God commands us to seek the peace of the land (Jeremiah 29:4-7) and intercede for leaders so that people may lead peaceful and godly lives (1 Timothy 2:1-4). When God’s peace reigns, there wii be open doors for God’s kingdom to expand.

2. Pray for hearts to be open to God’s Word – Just as the Lord opened Lydia’s heart to receive the gospel (Acts 16:14), we must ask Him to prepare hearts to be receptive to His truth.

3. Pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit – Transformation comes when the Spirit is poured out, bringing righteousness, justice, and fruitfulness (Isaiah 32:15).

4. Pray for labourers in the harvest – Jesus commands us to ask the Lord of the harvest to send workers into His field (Matthew 9:38). We also see this in action as the Holy Spirit sent out Paul and Barnabas (Acts 13:1-5).

5. Pray for new believers to be established in the faith – Paul laboured in prayer for Christ to be formed in the hearts of new converts (Galatians 4:19), and Epaphras fervently prayed for believers to stand mature and fully assured in God’s will (Colossians 4:12).

These prayer points constitute the most effective way to win nations and cities for Christ—not by fighting the powers of darkness, but by calling upon God to establish His kingdom in the hearts of people.
