A US-BASED gospel preacher, Warren E. Berkley, has warned Christians to be watchful about the activities of false prophets and teachers who are exploiting and leading many people to hell.
He gave the warnings below each beginning with the word, ‘Never’ in a message.
Never think that if a man is popular and brings in huge crowd that means he must be teaching the truth.
Never think that if a man is a good public speaker and can hold the attention of an audience that means he must be teaching the truth.
Never think that if you like the person, he must be teaching the truth.
Never think that if a man has been baptized and is a member of a local church of Christ, he has to be a perfect teacher of truth.
Never think that if a man quotes a lot of Scriptures, he must be teaching the truth.
Never think that if a man has academic educational credentials he must be teaching the truth.”
I agree with Berkley in pointing out that “the only way to determine if a man is teaching the truth—see if what he says is in the Bible.
In order for you to make that determination you know what you have to do. Read and study your Bible (Acts 17: 10- 11).
For example, few years ago, an Accra-based apostle traded the grace of God when he ministered in a Kumasi-based church.
During what he called the prophetic ministration, the apostle asked a sick man to pay GHȼ5000 to receive healing.
But we know that the Lord Jesus and the early apostles never healed anybody after paying money. This tells you that pastors who trade the grace of God for money have fallen into the Ballam’s error.
Jesus commands His ministers to “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleans lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay” (Matt. 10: 8).
