Using Our God-Given Brains To Solve Problems

“He waited seven more days and again sent out the dove from the ark. When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth” (Genesis 8:11).

One of the favourite sayings of Rev. Stephen Wengam, Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana, is: “God will not do by miracle what you can do by common sense!”

Noah is a great example of this truth. He trusted God completely, but he also used wisdom and practical steps to solve a problem.

By sending out the dove, he actively searched for answers. When the dove returned with an olive leaf, Noah had proof that the waters were receding. He combined faith with intelligence—spiritual dependence with practical action.

Sadly, many times as African Christians, we have been accused of ignoring our God-given intellect, hoping prayer alone would solve every problem.

Prayer is vital—it connects us to God’s power and guidance—but God also expects us to think, plan, create, and innovate. Prayer opens the heavens, but wisdom helps us manage the earth.

Look around: those who don’t even believe in God are using their brains to invent, innovate, and advance society. How much more should we, who have the Spirit of God, rise up and use our transformed minds to solve problems, provide solutions, and bring glory to His name?

Today, choose to combine prayer with action, faith with wisdom, and revelation with innovation.
