What Is Your Testimony As a Christian?

“SO FOR the second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man (Jesus) is a sinner.” He answered, “Whether he is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that THOUGH I WAS BLIND, NOW I SEE” (John 9:24-25, emphasis mine).

No one encounters Jesus Christ supernaturally without receiving a notable miracle for testimonies. When the blind, sick, afflicted, oppressed, destitute, sinner and even the dead come in contact with the Lord, they are healed, raised, transformed, changed, saved.

In the passage of Scripture above, the man who was born blind received his sight after benefiting from the goodness of God; he had a testimony to share with the unbelieving Pharisees and the world.

People who labour and are heavy laden go to Christ Jesus, and are given rest. Personally, the Lord has turned my life around; close friends, colleagues and relations can testify that God has greatly reformed me.

The Lord Jesus came to seek and save the lost. Zacchaeus knew that he was lost and needed salvation. He publicly confessed his sins, and pledged restitution to those he might have defrauded. And Jesus Christ saved him (Luke 19:1-10).

Zacchaeus’ testimony was that he was once a fraudster, perhaps under-invoicing or over-invoicing while working as a tax collector for the Roman government in Jesus’ day.

But when Jesus Christ came into his life as He was passing through Jericho to Jerusalem, Zacchaeus was turned into another man. The power of righteousness in Christ destroyed the yoke of sin in him, giving him a living testimony of eternal salvation.

Can we forget about the Apostle Paul? We know his past life before experiencing the supernatural visitation of Christ in his life. We read in Acts Chapter 9 that Paul was threatening to get Christians arrested. His main aim was to destroy the Church.

However, his encounter with the risen Lord turned his life around, making him a defender of the very faith he had earlier sought to disintegrate. Paul’s testimony was contained in a letter to Timoth, his son in the Lord.

“I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to this service, though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief” (1 Timothy 1:12-13).

What is your testimony as a Christian? Today, when Christians meet to give testimonies, most of their testimonies are about material things they have acquired. We testify about cars, marriages, education, investments and money.

Hardly do Christians today share testimonies about how God has changed them from being sinners to righteous and holy people; people who have been changed from being faithless to people of faith that are determined to take the cross of Christ and walk the narrow gate to eternal life.

This is not to say believers cannot testify about material or physical blessings. We can, but we must also realise that a believer can testify of being rich and prosperous, and needing nothing and yet be wretched, pitiable, poor, blind and naked… (Revelation 3:17-18).
