The human mouth was not only created to eat, but also to speak about things they see, hear, smell, taste and touch. It is, thus, expected that people, whether educated or uneducated, speak.
With this truth, most governments of nations have enacted laws, guaranteeing freedom of speech and giving people the rights to freely express their views on issues. But the rights for free speech must be exercised responsibly.
Interestingly, one thing people, have over the years, been speaking about is religion. Humans are naturally religious. Religion may be viewed as man’s attempt to know God.
That is why humans practice many religions in the world, including Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Taoism, Shinto, Confucianism, Sikhism and Jainism.
However, Christians argue that Christianity is not a religion but a relationship, considering the fact that it was God who descended from heaven to the earth to restore a broken love relationship between Him and man through Christ Jesus.
Now, the surprising question is, why do many people single out Christianity and attack it, mocking and insulting Jesus Christ, the Bible, pastors, and criticising heaven, prayer and other things associated with the Faith? Why do they spare the other religions?
The answer is quite simple. People attack Christianity or the Church not because it is the largest or it is the leading religion in the world. It is not because Christians do not contribute to national development or they break laws.
Understand that the development of America and Europe were based on the foundations of the Church. It shaped those societies through intellectual pursuits, building schools, colleges, universities, hospitals and orphanages.
However, people, through the instigation of Satan, attack Christianity for two main reasons. First, they know that most Christians are peace-loving people who will not violently retaliate when they are attacked. They know Christians will not raid their homes to arrest them, torture them, burn them alive, lynch them, or behead them.
Second, they attack the Church because it is genuine, authentic and true; it is the light of the world. And Satan and his demons hate it. That is why they fight it, operating through some people.
Satan and his human agents will not waste time and other resource to undermine something that is false. The attacks against the Church of Jesus Christ and its teachings stem from pure hatred which is a characteristic of the Devil. Jesus says this hatred is without cause (John 15:25).
As a Christian, you may be hurt, saddened and even discouraged when you see or hear people tear or burn the Bible, denigrate the Church, mock our Saviour, persecute pastors or fellow believes and ridicule the teachings of the Faith.
Now, these attacks should not, in any way, break you, but strengthen and build your confidence in Christ Jesus, who has saved you and translated you from the kingdom of darkness into the glorious kingdom of light which is God’s.
Therefore, do not give up; hold on to your faith, keep it alive and keep soldiering on when you hear these things. God knows about them, and He is in control. We have already overcome them. Amen.
