EXPERIENCING GOD’S LOVE FOR YOU

Nothing can separate us from the love of God, which is ours in Christ Jesus. There is nothing we can do to hinder God’s love for us or stop God from loving even the worst sinner. However, we can hinder ourselves from receiving, experiencing, and enjoying His love.

Believers must understand that we experience the Father’s love as we believe in His love for us (1 Jn 4:16). Therefore, we must believe in God’s love revealed through Christ Jesus, the magnitude of His love, and His willingness to demonstrate His love towards us.

The next crucial step is cultivating a profound relationship with God. As we draw near to God, who is love, He draws near to us for the element of His love to rub on us. God can’t stop loving us, but those who invest time and dependency on Him will encounter an even richer depth of His love.

In Luke chapter 15, verses 11 through 24, Jesus told a parable of the loving father and the prodigal son to reveal God’s heart towards us. In this parable, the loving father never ceased to love his younger son, but the son could truly experience the father’s benevolence, goodwill, and love when he was with him. The loving father had enough to feed his servants and household, but his son had to feed on pig’s pods in a foreign land.

Recall that Jesus dearly loved all His disciples, commanding them to love one another as He loved them. Yet, Apostle John, identifying as the disciple whom Jesus loved, undoubtedly encountered a unique depth of the Master’s love. During the Last Supper, he occupied a place next to Jesus, leaning on His bosom like a child with a parent. At Christ’s crucifixion, John was the only disciple who was at the foot of the cross, entrusted with the care of the Lord’s mother. John’s intimate fellowship with Jesus earned him an unparalleled measure of His love (Jn.13:21-25; 19:25-27).

Ultimately, we embrace the Father’s love as we obey His commandments. We abide in God’s love as we love one another (Jn 14:21-23; 15:10).
