The 47th President of the United States of America (USA), Mr. Donald J. Trump, has stated that his government would not forget God.
“In everything we do, my administration will be inspired by a strong pursuit of excellence and unrelenting success. We will not forget our country, we will not forget our Constitution and we will not forget our God. Can’t do that” he said to a thunderous applause.
Mr Trump who was speaking at his inaugural ceremony in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol, on January 20, 2025, re-emphasised that God saved him from death in order for him to make America great again.
The President had survived two assassination attempts on his life prior to his inauguration for his second term in office.
In his speech, the newly sworn in President, referenced God severally, projecting his firm believe in Jesus Christ as his Saviour and Lord.
Mr Trump’s solemn pledge that his government would not forget God aligns with God’s expectation of people He saves, helps or provides as they navigate the challenges of life.
“Take care lest you forget the Lord your God by not keeping his commandments and his rules and his statutes, which I command you today” (Deuteronomy 8:11).
God sharply rebuked His covenant people, the congregation of Israel, for forgetting the great miracles He wrought through Moses, leading to their rescue from slavery in Egypt.
Their ingratitude and lack of faith revealed how quickly they turned away from His mighty works and provision.
This serves as a warning to believers today to remember and trust in God’s faithfulness, giving Him glory for His past works and relying on Him in every situation.
Forgetting His deeds can lead to disobedience, but remembering His power sustains our faith.
“They forgot God, their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt” (Psalm 106:21).
This is something President Trump, a staunch Christian, does not want to do, so he publicly declared, “we will not forget our God.”
He does not want God to rebuke him for forgetting Him. In other words, by his words, Mr Trump is determined to always remember how God saved him from his enemies and involve Him in his governance.
He is, therefore, committed to ensuring that the name of God is glorified even as he, his family, his government, his Republican Party and supporters express gratitude to God.
The U.S. 47th President’s words should inspire presidents of other nations to involve God in their decision-making processes and governance as a whole.
They should also motivate other Christian believers around the world to make Christ Jesus known and be appreciative of God’s love, protection, provisions and above all His salvation from eternal damnation.
