The Disciplines of Living Under an Open Heaven

Caption: Peter Collins Obeng

We have affirmed that God has already prepared and laid up His resources to meet the need of every dimension of the believer’s life. In Christ Jesus, heaven is opened over us, granting us unhindered access to all the spiritual and material blessings available in God’s storehouse.

However, while God’s provisions have already been made available, the Church must understand that there are spiritual disciplines we must cultivate and maintain in order to position ourselves to partake of what has been freely provided.

I present below FIVE KEY DISCIPLINES for living under an open heaven:

1. The Discipline of Reverential Fear of God (Psalm 31:19).

The fear of God is a deep, loving reverence for Him that honours who God is, submits to His authority, hates what He hates, loves what He loves, and results in obedience and holy living.

2. The Discipline of Trusting in God (Psalm 31:19)

Trusting God releases us from self-reliance and allows His supernatural provision and guidance to flow unhindered (Jeremiah 17:7–8). Trusting God is not a feeling; it is a heart posture expressed through faith, obedience, and dependence on the Word.

3. The Discipline of Loving God

Our love for God is the foundation of obedience and covenant intimacy. Love keeps our hearts aligned with His will (John 14:15;1 John 5:3).

4. The Discipline of Giving

Giving acknowledges God as our source and opens the channels of heaven over our lives (2 Corinthians 9:6–8; Philippians 4:19).

5. The Discipline of Stewardship

Stewardship recognises that everything we possess belongs to God. Faithfulness in stewardship attracts greater trust and increase. Faithful stewardship sustains the flow of heaven. When resources are managed with integrity, humility, and generosity, God continues to entrust more.

As we faithfully cultivate and maintain these disciplines, we position ourselves to participate in the provisions laid up in God’s storehouse.
