“It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it” (Isaiah 2:2-3).
Israel was chosen as a people for God’s treasured possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth so they were holy to God (Deut 7:6). God had a covenant relationship with them, and ensured that even when they disobeyed His Word and went down He would still bring them up to the height planned for them.
That was why Isaiah the prophet declared to them that although their country would lie desolate and their cities burned with fire by foreigners (Isa 1:7) due to their sin (4-6), God would restore them to their pre-eminent status amongst nations (2:2). He would lift up Jerusalem above all cities, and people would go there to seek the ways of God and walk in them.
Similarly, people adopted as children of God through Jesus Christ (Eph 1:5), become a chosen race and a holy nation (1 Pet 2:9). They are freed from their sins by the blood of Jesus Christ and set apart from all other peoples in the world, and are made priests and kings (Rev 1:5-6). They are made a new creation (2 Cor 5:17); the ones who can show the ways of the Lord to others for them to walk in them.
Jesus Christ lifts up those He saves to a height that the greatest and most powerful of the world can never attain. Their lives get hidden with Him in God (Col 3:3) so they get seated with Him in the heavenly places (Eph 2:6).
Surely, children of God are made to ride on the heights of the earth (Isaiah 58:14) or are given the deer’s feet to tread on their high places (Hab3:19). Since Christ has ascended far above the heavens (Eph 4:10), they are at the highest place with him in God.
The least in Christ is greater than the greatest of the world, so Christian, live rejoicing, for grace has positioned you at the highest place in life.
PRAYER: Father, thank you for your grace that has brought people to this high height in Christ. May they rejoice always for being your children, royals, and priests in Him, and lead others to also come to you. Amen.
