“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, ‘Lord, save me.’ Jesus immediately stretched out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, ‘O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:30-31).
God promised to take His people, Israel, by the hand and keep them (Isa 42:6) for none can deliver from His hand (43:13). Indeed, the safest place a person could be is to be held by the hand of God. Jesus affirmed this point when He said that no one is able to snatch a person from His Father’s hand (John 10:29).
As God’s Son, Christ Jesus offers the same safety to His disciples as the Father offered to His people. He assures them that none can snatch them out of His hand (John 10:28).
He demonstrated this with Peter, who was in a boat with the other disciples, where the waves and the wind rose against them (Mt 14:24). He suddenly appeared, walking on the water, and this made Peter ask that if it was Him, He should command him to come to Him on the water (28). He asked him to come and Peter began walking on the water toward Him.
However, when he saw the wind he became afraid. His doubt made him begin to sink, and he cried out to Jesus who took him by his hand and led him safely into the boat where the wind and waves ceased.
Safety in the world can be found in the hands of Christ Jesus. Once He holds a person’s hand, they are kept safe from any trouble. Their safety is guaranteed, for none or nothing can snatch out of His hand.
What dangerous terrain are you treading in life today, and what storm is against you? Is it some dreadful disease, a troubled marriage, crippling poverty, immobilizing fear, etc? Call unto Christ Jesus, disciple, and He will stretch forth His hand to take hold of you, stabilize your steps, and take you to a safe destination.
No danger can overwhelm any person, who is in the hand of Christ Jesus, so give your hand to Him and be set free from every danger.
PRAYER: Father, thank you for the safety you give to people by the hand of Jesus Christ. May all be held by His hand and find rest amidst trouble. Amen.
