The life of glory is the life God has purposed for us to live in Christ—a life in which we partake of His glory, reflect His nature and character, and bring glory to His name.
God’s grace is the foundation upon which the life of glory is built. Grace is not merely unmerited favour; it is also the divine ability, power, strength, and enablement that works for us, in us, and through us to fulfill God’s purposes.
God’s purpose for humanity from the beginning was to live for His glory. He created Adam in His own image and likeness, blessed him, and crowned him with glory and honour. As God’s image-bearer, Adam was created to reflect His nature and express His moral qualities. He was created to live for God’s glory by divine grace (Genesis 1:26-28; Psalm 8:5).
Jesus Christ, the last Adam, also lived His earthly human life of glory on the basis of grace. John 1:14 declares that the disciples beheld His glory and that He was full of grace. His glory was revealed through His character, words, works, and perfect obedience to the Father. Hebrews 2:9 also declares that He tasted death for everyone by the grace of God.
The lives of the first Adam and the last Adam help us understand the relationship between grace and the life of glory. Through our union with Jesus Christ, we have been brought into God’s purpose to partake of His glory, reflect His nature, and bring honour to His name.
This life cannot be lived by human strength or self-effort; it requires continual dependence on God’s grace. The apostle Paul explains in Romans 5:2 that, through Jesus Christ, we have access by faith into God’s grace, in which we stand firmly and securely, rejoicing in the hope and confident assurance of experiencing and enjoying His glory.
Therefore, if we are to live the life of glory God has purposed for us in Christ, we must recognise grace as our foundation. We must continually access this grace by faith, allowing God to work in us so that the nature and character of Christ may increasingly be manifested through our lives.
