God desires that the Church, as an extension of His kingdom on earth, engages His power, authority, peace, and righteousness to enforce His will on earth.
The Father calls believers in Christ to engage the influence of His kingdom through Word-based and Spirit-energized prayers.
However, certain things we do or say in our prayer life can hinder the effective influence of His kingdom on earth.
The reality is that many Christians unknowingly yield to a different spirit in their prayer life instead of the Holy Spirit.
This other spirit influences them to say or do things contrary to God and His Word (Luke 9:51-56; 2 Corinthians 11:4).
Another reason we fail to engage the kingdom’s influence is that we do not recognize the importance of being watchful and staying alert in prayer as a crucial part of spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:18; Colossians 4:2).
Instead, we become aggressive or violent in our prayers, often misapplying scriptures like Matthew 11:12, which says, “The kingdom of God suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.”
However, this verse has nothing to do with prayer.
A third hindrance to the kingdom’s influence in our prayers is the attempt to pull down demonic strongholds over nations, cities, or geographical areas instead of praying for hearts to be prepared and receptive to the Word as God’s labourers go into the harvest field.
Others spend precious hours, casting demons into hell or the abyss, which is not biblically possible (Matthew 8:28-29).
In Part 2, we will discuss how to effectively engage God’s influence on earth through Word-based and Spirit-energized prayer.
