GHANA’S NEWLY-appointed Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo is an ardent preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
She is not ashamed to identify with the cross of Christ and its message of salvation which is an offense to many who take pride in their Aristotelian education.
The Supreme Court judge is a preacher at the Calvary Temple of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) in Sakumono in the Greater Accra Region.
“I am a lay minister and I am not a full-time pastor in the church,” she said, adding that her duties at church do not influence her work as a judge.
Justice Torkornoo was a member of the church before she became a High Court judge.
“I don’t think that anybody has ever attempted to compromise my integrity,” she said.
It is reported that her role in church is practised based on integrity and Biblical values but her role in court is about the law.
One of the biblical verses she has frequently been quoting during evangelism over the years is John 3:16.
It reads: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
The Appointment Committee of Parliament vetted her on May 24, 2023, to replace Justice Kwesi Anin-Yeboah, who proceeded on retirement on Wednesday, May 24 after turning 70.
Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo’s ability to make time to participate in ministry in spite of her tight schedule is an inspiration to many.
Christians who are working as journalists, engineers, lawyers, medical doctors, accountants, professors and others should not find it difficult to serve one another with the gifts dispensed to them by the Lord.
Peter, the apostle, writes: “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another”, (1 Peter 4:10).
The in-coming Chief Justice’s active participation in Christian ministry as a preacher alludes to the fact that it is a rare privilege to be in the position to serve God and humanity.
