The Credibility of Christian Leaders

“As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew…Come, follow me, Jesus said, and I will make you fishers of men.’ At once they left their nets and followed him” (Matthew 4:18-20).

All good leaders are good persuasive communicators who influence other people to do what they want them to do. Pastors communicate by preaching or teaching the Word of God, the deep things of God to equip, edify and comfort the church.

Singers mainly communicate with people through singing. Ushers communicate with people by welcoming and receiving them to church meetings.

Moreover, an announcer gives information to the church and intercessors or prayer warriors lead other believers to pray. Also, the way and manner instrumentalists go about their duties speak volumes.

As they teach, usher, sing, pray and play drums, they strengthen what they say with postures, gestures and facial expressions. In fact, everything about leaders including the manner in which they dress communicate.

A Christian leader must be a good communicator, be anointed with the Holy Spirit and power. Besides, he must have credibility.

Jesus Christ was not only anointed with the Spirit and power; He was outstandingly credible. Peter and Andrew did not only follow Jesus because He was anointed but also that He was credible.

By the strategic positions they occupy, Christian leaders are seen as the mirror of the church. People see the image of the church through its leaders.
Thus, if the leaders are bad, the church will be seen as bad; if they are good, the church will be seen as such.

Consequently, the credibility of the leaders of every Christian church plays a major role in the growth and expansion of the church.

In the church community, the credibility of leaders is mostly held in the minds of the other church members. In other words, credibility in this context is the church members’ perception of whether the leaders are qualified to do what they have been appointed to do.

Credibility means believability. Thus, to be credible is to be believable, trustworthy and acceptable. What Christian leaders do will impact the lives of the church members if they can be trusted.

Credibility is extremely important in the 21st Century social settings. One cannot go far without being credible. Society writes off people who cannot be trusted. In fact, people who are credible usually attract the blessing of the Lord.
