Easter celebration began in Europe but its origins remain unclear.
Christians largely understand the word “Easter” to mean the “Celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
But the word is often linked to an Anglo-Saxon word “Eastre” which refers to the goddess of love and fertility.
Because of this theory of pagan origin, some churches prefer to call it Resurrection Sunday.
The word “Easter” is found only once in the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible in Acts12:4. But the use of Easter in that passage is wrong because the Jews did not celebrate any festival called Easter.
Thus, the appropriate word the translators of the KJV should have used in Acts 12:4 for the Easter is Passover.
Jesus Christ did not command His disciples to celebrate Easter. As a result, the Bible does not explain how Easter should be celebrated.
Many pastors do not seriously preach and teach about the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ until Easter.
This means the annual Easter celebrations have conditioned and influenced many pastors to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ yearly.
Not all churches celebrate Easter.
There is no biblical evidence that the First Century Church that was in Israel with Apostles namely Peter, James, John, Paul and others celebrated Easter.
Many have commercialised Easter celebrations today.
