The glory experienced by God’s covenant nation, Israel, under the Old Covenant was an important stage in God’s progressive plan to restore to humanity what was lost through the Fall.
The Church needs to know and understand that the glory lost in Adam is fully restored in Christ.
Though Christ was fully God and fully Man, He emptied Himself, not of His deity, but of the privileges and outward expression of divine glory that belonged to Him, including the glory He had with the Father before the world existed (John 17:5).
He then assumed the form of a bondservant and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross (Philippians 2:6–8).
Thankfully, through Christ’s miraculous conception in the womb of the virgin Mary, He was born without inheriting Adam’s sinful nature. Therefore, Christ never fell short of the glory intended for humanity.
As the Man Christ Jesus, He manifested the fullness of the glory intended for man, and this glory was visible for His disciples to behold: “And we beheld His glory” (John 1:14).
Christ, the last Adam, who was also crowned with glory and honour, like the first Adam, exercised dominion on the earth—not only over the works of the enemy but also over creation itself (Hebrews 2:6–9). He spoke to the wind and the sea, commanded the fig tree, and exercised authority over the fish.
In Christ, therefore, we see humanity restored to God’s original purpose: to bear His image, share in His glory, exercise dominion, and bring glory to God.
