“Forever, O LORD, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens” (Psalm 119:89).
Everything in the world is subject to change, for created things change. Even the heavens and the earth are undergoing change for they are created. They will perish ultimately, for they will wear out like a garment, and be changed and discarded (Psalm 103:25,26).
It is only God, the Creator, who does not change. He is the same and his years have no end (27). His Word is like Him so it also does not change.
The Word of God is forever fixed in heaven, the home of God, so does not change. All other things fixed in heaven also do not change. For instance, hope in Jesus Christ, as the anchor of the soul, is firm and secure; does not chage, for it is grounded in heaven (Heb 6:19). It is this unchanging Word that enters a person to give them new life (1 Pet 1:23) and keeps them for eternity.
The Word of God sustains the heavens and the earth, and all things in them, and shall keep them until their time is up to be removed (2 Peter 3:5-7). Furthermore, faith in Christ plants the Word of God as an imperishable seed in a person (1 Pet 1:23) to make their life eternal. Therefore, in every Christian is the power above all powers that is able to keep them safe and secure forever.
The greatest word in the universe is the name, Jesus. This name, when mentioned, causes every knee to bow in heaven, on earth, and under the earth, and every tongue to confess that He is Lord (Phil 2:9-11). Indeed, every Word of God is about Him (John 5:39).
Christians become complete because of Jesus Christ who lives in them via His Word and His Spirit. It is written that in Christ they have been made perfect forever whilst being sanctified (Heb 10:14).
However, it takes faith in God’s Word to make their perfection real. Accordingly, for lack of faith, several Christians shall be overcome by things that Christ has already overcome for them (1 John 5:4).
Christian, with God’s unchanging Word in you, you are wired for a life steadfast in faith and confident in hope, so depend on the Holy Spirit to overcome the world.
PRAYER: Father, thank you for your unchanging Word that you plant in people in Christ to make them your children forever. May all who have your Word in them treasure what they have become in Christ and glorify your name always. Amen.
